Fruit is very large, black and attractive; one of the finest commercial sweet cherries. One of the best shipping and fresh market varieties as well as commercial canning. Flesh very solid, reddish-purple. Flavor of the highest quality, firm and juicy.
Black Tartarian
Very large, heart shaped fruit varies from bright purplish-black to red skin with sweet, red rich juicy flesh. This remarkably vigorous tree is an erect grower and immense bearer. Mainly used as a pollinizer for most varieties. One of the earliest ripening cherries.
Brooks (USPP # 6676)
Large, uniform, oblate, dark red fruit. Flesh is firm and crisp with variable shades of red and pink. The stone is nearly free. Flavor is superior to Early Burlat and is sweet, rich, well-balanced, and exceptional for early season maturity.
Chelan(USPP # 8545)
Resembles Bing with good size. Firm, sweet, round fruit. Skin is glossy, dark red mahogany color. Good flavored fruit which matures two weeks ahead of Bing. Quite resistant to cracking.
Benton™(known as Columbia™) (USPP # Pending)
Large, excellent quality, dark red cherry that ripens several days ahead of Bing. Self-fertile. Blooms with Bing, and crops very well. In consumer evaluations, it far outdistanced all other cherries, including Bing, for the mid-season ripening period.
Lapins
Large, highly split-resistant, self-fertile. Lambert type. The fruit is dark with lighter red flesh, firm and bright appearance. Harvests 10-14 days after Bing. An excellent pollinator.
Selah(known as Liberty Bell) (USPP # Pending)
Mahogany red fruit, self-fertile, ripens with Lapins. Large, round and moderate firmness. Blooms with Bing. Doesn't form tight clusters under expanded test on standard and dwarfing rootstocks.
Montmorency
The best tart cherry for home and commercial processing, the standard for pie cherries. A medium size, dark red cherry with good flavor. Yellow flesh and clear juice. Rich tart, tangy flavor.
Rainier
Large, yellow fruit with a red blush similar to Royal Ann. Firm, clear to light yellow flesh. Fine-textured and distinct flavor. Vigorous, upright spreading tree. Early bearing. Very productive. Ripens mid-season.
Stella
Lambert-type appearance and flavor. Large, heart-shaped, moderately firm, dark red fruit. Sweet, juicy flesh. Rich flavor. Ideal for home orchard. Very vigorous, productive tree. First self-fertile sweet cherry. Moderate crack resistance. Fine pollinizer for other varieties. Fruit buds are relatively winter-tender.
Sweetheart
A fairly new self-fertile sweet cherry recently developed in Summerland, BC. Large bright red fruit that matures 5-7 days after Lapins, with good flavor. The tree is very precocious. Requires pruning to prevent size problems. Sweetheart is a cross between Van and Newstar.
Tulare (USPP # 6407)
Fruit shape is oblong and symmetrical. Skin color at picking maturity is red and flesh color is pink to red. Ripens even and texture is firm and juicy. Fruit has exceptional shipping and storage characteristics. Flavor is sweet and mildly acid. Ripens 3 days after Brooks and 7 days ahead of Bing.
Utah Giant
A new-western disease-resistant variety. The fruit is larger and firmer than Bing or Lambert with outstanding flavor. Flesh color is dark red and sweet. Blooms with Bing. Fruits set in large clusters, partially freestone. The fruit retains firmness, flavor and color throughout processing.
Van
Large, shiny, reddish black sweet cherry similar to Bing but firmer with good flavor. Good fresh, cooked, canned or frozen. An excellent pollinator for other sweet cherries.
